Mircea Valeriu Deaca teaches film analysis and theory, film history and contemporary Romanian film at the Centre for European Studies and the Doctoral School, University of Bucharest. He has a Ph.D thesis on the carnival tradition and Federico Fellini’s films at the Paris 3 – Sorbonne nouvelle. He has been writing and publishing articles on cinematography since 1983 and he is a member of the Romanian Association of Film Critics A key focus of his research is cognitive approach to film studies. His books are: The Carnival and Federico Fellini’s Films (2009), Second Camera (2011), Postfilmic Cinema (2013), The Anatomy of Film. Introduction to the Semio-cognitive Approach of Film Studies (2013) and Investigations in Cognitive Film Analysis (2015). He recently published a study on the Kitchen Scenes in the New Romanian Cinema (2017). He organizes the annual international conference Cinema: Cognition and Arts since 2016, and was editor for the 2018 issue of Ekphrasis dedicated on Cinema and cognition.
